SUMMARY:

Drives propane powered forklift to transport, load / unload incoming and outgoing freight. Transports materials and finished product in and out of the Auto Stack by performing the following duties efficiently and safely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives forklift safely and efficiently following all work rules and safe operating procedures.

Operates scanners for picking orders, moving items, and adjusting inventory.

Assist all other forklift drivers when time permits and be the backup for them when absent.

Load products onto outgoing trucks for shipment.

Planning and organizing shipping building floor space to accommodate inventories such as staged items, stock items, kitted jamb sets, etc.

Communicate effectively with management and co-workers.

Operate a forklift indoors under space constraints.

Assumes full responsibility for maintaining quality and minimize the damage to finished goods during the transporting process, loading and unloading of material for shipping.

Performs stacking functions, stacking stock bundles and other staged bundles.

Performs banding functions securing bundles for transporting.

Performs reading and writing functions, interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, loading schedules, freight slips, and inventory and sales order notes.

Inspects incoming freight inspecting for quantities, condition of freight and reports all inaccuracies and damage to management.

Housekeeping functions, maintaining clean traffic or roadways through shipping and around loading docks, auto stack, and large entry doors.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months forklift operating experience and/or training.

Forklift certification preferred.

Good safety record.

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, drive and climb up and down off forklift. Occasionally walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to operate forklift safely and determine when maintenance is needed.
  • Ability to operate scanners for picking orders, moving items, & adjusting inventory.
  • Be a utility player, prioritize work between forklift duties, auto stack, & order picking; ability to easily move from one task to another to complete work efficiently.
  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Possess strong mechanical aptitude and able to use hand tools, read sales order notes, scanners, equipment and safety manuals and measuring instruments.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Pay: $19.00 - $20.45 per hour
